Open Source

Built in the open

The layer underneath Maxed is open.

Maxed runs on open standards and open-source components. The adapters, the spec, the CLI, the deployment templates, and the UI layer are built in the open.

The hosted product and its team of agents are the commercial part we run for you. Everything underneath is open, so your firm gets transparency into the stack, a real deployment model to reason about, and no lock-in.

What we open-source

We open the technical layer a firm or partner needs to trust and reason about the platform.

Adapters and integrations

The connectors Maxed uses to talk to banks, GLs, tax software, payroll, and the rest of your stack. Open so you can read exactly how your data moves, and extend a connector your firm needs.

The platform spec

The shared spec that defines how modules, agents, and data fit together. An open contract means anyone can build to it, and your firm is never locked into one vendor reading of it.

CLI and deployment templates

The command-line tooling and infrastructure templates that stand the platform up. Transparent so a firm or partner can inspect, audit, and reason about the deployment model.

The UI layer

Open interface components built on open standards. No black-box rendering of your firm and client data, and a clear path to inspect and adapt the surfaces your team works in.

Why we build in the open

What we are pushing for, and the philosophy behind it.

No lock-in, ever

Your data is portable and exportable anytime in standard formats. Because the platform is built on open components rather than a brittle closed box, your switching risk is far lower than a typical vendor.

Trust through transparency

You are handing software your firm and client data. You should be able to see how the plumbing works. Building the layer in the open is how we earn that trust instead of asking for it.

Built on open standards

We build on open standards and open-source components rather than reinventing closed equivalents. That keeps the platform interoperable and lets the whole ecosystem move faster.

Commercial where it counts

The hosted Maxed product and its team of agents are the commercial part we run for you. The layer underneath stays open, so the open core and the product reinforce each other instead of competing.

How to contribute

Contributions are welcome. A few rules keep the project clean and reviewable.

Open an issue first

For anything beyond a small fix, open an issue to describe the problem or proposal before you write code. It saves you rework and lets us point you at the right place in the stack.

Keep changes focused

One concern per pull request. Small, reviewable changes with a clear description get merged faster than large mixed ones.

Match the existing style

Follow the conventions already in the codebase. Keep the diff to what the change needs, and include tests where the project has them.

Never include real client data

No real firm or client data in issues, pull requests, or fixtures. Use synthetic samples only. This is a hard rule.
